Magnetic Survey Instruments Transient Electromagnetic Equipment
Magnetic survey instruments are used in a variety of applications, including mineral exploration, geologic mapping, and archeological studies. They are also used in military and aerospace applications, such as detecting submarines and mapping the Earth's magnetic field from space.
Types of Magnetic Survey Instrument
Proton precession magnetometer - This instrument measures the Earth's magnetic field by detecting the precession of protons in a magnetic field. It is sensitive to variations in the magnetic field caused by magnetic anomalies in the Earth's crust.
Fluxgate magnetometer - This instrument measures the strength and direction of magnetic fields. It uses two small coils of wire that are wound around a magnetic core. When a magnetic field is present, it causes a change in the electrical resistance of the wire, which can be measured and used to calculate the strength and direction of the magnetic field.
Overhauser magnetometer - This instrument uses a process called nuclear magnetic resonance to measure the Earth's magnetic field. It is similar to the proton precession magnetometer, but it uses a different type of atomic nucleus to detect the magnetic field.
Gradiometer - This instrument measures the spatial gradient of the magnetic field, which allows it to detect small changes in the magnetic field caused by nearby magnetic anomalies.
