Geophysical well-logging methods encompass mechanical techniques, passive and various active electrical methods (such as self-potential, resistivity, induction, induced polarization), several nuclear methods (including natural γ-ray detection and observations from induced nuclear reactions), acoustic logging, and measurements of magnetic and thermal properties.
